OLD SPANISH MISSION, Tumacacori National Monument. This old mission church illustrates Spanish colonial endeavor and commemorates the introduction of Christianity into what is now southern Arizona. Frontier missions such as this were both churches and centers of European culture and civilization. The National Park Service does not usually conduct extensive restoration of old historic buildings under its jurisdiction, but it does make the repairs necessary to prevent further deterioration.
