NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Thursday, February 8, 2007 =============================================================================================================== INCIDENTS Pictured Rocks NL Husband Of Woman Killed In Fall Charged With Murder On June 22, 2006, 43-year-old J.R. of McBain, Michigan, fell to her death from a cliff above Lake Superior about a half mile southwest of Miners Castle (for the original report, click on “More Information” below). J.R. was picnicking along the cliffs with her husband, 43-year-old T.R., when the incident occurred. Following the incident, a joint investigation into the cause of the accident was undertaken by the Alger County Sheriff's Department, FBI, Michigan State Police, and the National Park Service. On Tuesday, February 6th, T.R. was arrested in Cadillac, Michigan, and arraigned in court on two charges - open murder, which carries a life in prison sentence, and manslaughter, which carries a 15-year sentence. T.R.'s preliminary exam has been set for February 28th. The judge did not set a bail amount due to the serious nature of the charges. T.R. is currently lodged in the Alger County Jail. Lake Mead NRA - Due to lowering water levels on Lake Mead, the park has moved the Overton Beach Marina from the Overton Arm of Lake Mead down to the existing marinas operated by Forever Resorts at Callville Bay and Temple Bar. Mammoth Cave NP - On February 2nd, the park welcomed 16 representatives from the Peoples Republic of China who came to explore the karst region of central Kentucky. Yellowstone NP - Associated Press news story: A wolf in Yellowstone has been stricken with mange, the first time the disease has been documented in wolves in the park. Blue Ridge Parkway - Richard (Rick) Wyatt, concessions management specialist at Blue Ridge Parkway, retired on January 3rd after 30 years of federal service. Gulf Islands NS - The park is recruiting for a GS-7/9 full time law enforcement park ranger. Although government housing may be available, occupancy is not required. The position is located in the Florida District.
